Like an abused child, the United States vowed to, and successfully created a system of governing completely different from the monarch they were previously ruled under, giving birth to a presidential system that would become the leading example of political democracy. On July 4th, 1776 the thirteen original American Colonies Declared Independence from Great Britain’s Empire a year into the Revolutionary war of 1775-1783. With Victory, the founding fathers of the United States drafted a system in which the American people had the power and responsibility to select their leader. As they wrote the Constitution, the framers gave the office only limited powers.
